As you may already know, you need to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. It’s also best to brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. But did you know there are little things you can do to improve your brushing routine? Well, it’s true, and our dentists, Dr. Parth Patel and Dr. Thomas Schnare, are happy to tell you those secrets.
First, brush your smile from the inside out. It’s easy to miss the plaque that is near your tongue, so it’s best to start there so you don’t forget. Brush the insides of the bottom teeth and then brush the insides of the top teeth. When you’re done, brush the outsides to completely clean each tooth.
Second, brush with a dry toothbrush. A dry toothbrush has stiffer bristles that can be more effective at removing plaque from your teeth. So, try not to run your brush under water before putting it in your mouth. However, if you forget to do so, don’t worry. Your brush gets wet after being in your mouth for a minute or so anyway.
Third, “dance” the brush as you scrub. This might sound confusing, but all you need to do is add a little wiggle to the brush and brush in circles. This will help you perform a gentle, smooth, and thorough cleaning job, and it can also help you remove more plaque from your teeth.
